MAI’s Bodysuit Guide

MAI’s Bodysuit Guide

It’s the best of bodywear with the versatility of swimwear.  Here’s everything you need to know about wearing a bodysuit, MAI-style.

How Should a Bodysuit Fit?

The signature look of a bodysuit is meant to be snug and fitted. Our bodysuits are handmade in Bali with a buttery-soft feel and a double-layered mix of 80% nylon and 20% spandex fabric.

To find your perfect fit, we recommend following our sizing chart. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Cheekier Fit: Love to play up your silhouette? Some styles are cut higher on the hip for a bold look. If you’re in between sizes, sizing down can give you that cheeky fit.
  • Long Torso Consideration: If you have a longer torso, sizing up can offer added comfort and prevent any pull across the shoulders or waist. We also recommend choosing a style with adjustable straps for additional customization.

Please note that our ribbed colorways fit slightly differently than our signature buttery soft fabric, offering more support due to tighter fabrication. This results in a more snug fit, so you may want to size up in the ribbed styles.

Can I Swim in a Bodysuit?

Great question. Most bodysuits are meant to be worn as clothing, not swimwear. So, we’d say probably not. But, MAI’s bodysuits are made different. Our bodywear doubles as beachwear, making it super soft against your skin and the perfect piece to put on after a day in the sun.

Caring for Your Bodysuits

It’s important to note that MAI bodysuits are designed to be intimates first. That means the fabric is light and soft, shouldn’t be overly stretched, and has to go through some additional care to keep it looking as good as the day it arrived on your doorstep.

Keep Clear of Lotions, Sunscreens, and Rough Surfaces

While MAI bodysuits can take you to the beach and beyond, certain products and surfaces are best avoided. Lotions and sunscreens can sometimes stain or break down the delicate fibers, while rough surfaces can snag or damage the fabric. A little care to avoid these circumstances goes a long way.

Rinse After Each Wear

Whether you've worn your bodysuit for a day around town or on a beach escape, a quick rinse in cold water after each use will help remove any salt or sand that can dull the fabric over time.

Gentle Hand Wash

Hand washing in cool water with a mild soap is ideal. This gentle care routine preserves the bodysuit’s soft texture and helps maintain its shape. Avoid harsh detergents or scrubbing, which can weaken the fabric and stretch out the fit.

Air Dry in the Shade

When it’s time to dry, avoid direct sunlight, which can fade colors and reduce the elasticity of the fabric. Instead, hang your bodysuit in a shaded, cool place. Air drying not only extends the life of the piece but keeps it as soft and comfortable as the first time you wore it.
