Sustainability

Our planet is beautiful, and we’re committed to doing what we can to keep it that way. That means focusing on using sustainable materials, production and practices. At MAI, we continuously evaluate all areas of our company to move towards a more sustainable future.

Our Process

Packaging

  • We ship all our products using mailers made from 50% recycled materials. Once opened, you can easily put them in your home recycling after removing the label.
  • All MAI products are packaged in compostable poly bags. These bags are lightweight yet durable, protecting your garment until it arrives at your door. They are a stark contrast to typically used petroleum-based plastic bags, which will remain on the planet for up to 20 years. Poly bags can be put in commercial compost facilities or at-home compost bins and will break down in a matter of months.

Fabrics

  • Our ready-to-wear collection is made entirely of bamboo. As a fast-growing grass, this virgin material requires no fertilizer and can easily be regrown from its own roots, meaning there is no need to retill or replant fields. Compared to other material cultivation, this has significantly less of an impact on the environment.
  • Our men’s shorts feature Repreve fabric, which is made from recycled water bottles. Taking the water bottle material, Repreve turns polymer resin into fabric yarn and has recycled more than 40,000,000,000 bottles to date.
  • All of our fabric suppliers are OEKO-TEX certified. This textile certification standard promotes responsible materials and the protection of natural resources. For MAI, that means textile safety from yarn to finished product.

Production

  • Our factory is located in Bali, where all of our garments are sewn. We chose this area for our factory based on their quality standards and assurance that all workers would be, and are, paid above minimum wage.
  • To reduce waste and ensure a more sustainable approach to the production of our garments, any leftover material from our suits is upcycled into reusable bags.
